      <image:caption>Chef Charles Welch began working in restaurants as a teenager and soon found himself at Le Cordon Bleu in Chicago, earning his degree in Culinary Arts. Following his graduation in 2005, he held various culinary positions at some of Chicago’s most renowned restaurants, including Thyme, MK, and Sepia (where he helped the restaurant earn their first Michelin star). In 2013, Charles met Andrew Miller, an international culinary and food services strategist. Along with additional partners, they opened Honey’s in the West Loop, where Charles gained recognition for his Mediterranean-inspired dishes, earning him a nomination for “Rising Chef of the Year” for the 2017 Jean Banchet Awards, Last year, Charles, Andrew, and team opened Good Fortune, where he serves "New American-Meets-Mediterranean” cuisine to the Logan Square neighborhood.</image:caption>

It’s here where he has been receiving lifelong learning opportunities through music education, maintenance and housekeeping, inclusive community experiences, and health and wellness programs. He also participates in culinary arts training and has proven to be excellent at following recipes and cooking for his fellow program members. Daniel’s life skills have grown tremendously through the interactions of his instructors and peers, and over the past 15 years he has become an instrumental part of the Gateway to Learning community.</image:caption>
